1599 born in Huntingdon

1616 goes to Cambridge University

1617 returns to Huntingdon to look after his family when his father dies

1621 marries Elizabeth Bourchier

1628 becomes MP for Huntingdon

1631 moves to St Ives

1636 moves to Ely

1640 becomes MP for Cambridge

1642 becomes a soldier in the Parliamentarian army in the First Civil War

1645 defeats the King’s army in the Battle of Naseby, King surrenders

1648 fights in the Second Civil War

1649 helps bring King Charles the First to trail, the king is executed

1653 Cromwell is made ‘Lord Protector of the Commonwealth’

1658 Cromwell dies in September

1660 Collapse of the Commonwealth, King Charles the Second is restored to the throne
